Laura Espinoza-Mufson, Co-founder

Laura has spent over a decade dedicated to advancing Dual Language education. She has served in a range of roles across PreK–12 settings, including teacher, instructional lead, coach, coordinator, director, and consultant. Throughout her career, Laura has led impactful initiatives such as improving student literacy outcomes in both English and Spanish, developing and implementing multi-year strategic plans, and expanding Dual Language programs into middle and high schools.
A second-generation Ecuadorian-American, Laura brings both personal and professional experience to her work. Raised bilingual and bicultural, she developed a deep passion for language education and equity. She sees Dual Language education not only as an academic approach but as a powerful tool for social justice—particularly for students from historically marginalized communities.
Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Mount Holyoke College, Master’s in Education from The George Washington University, and a Graduate Certificate in Bilingual and Dual Language Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has lived and worked in Washington, DC; Spain; and now resides in Massachusetts.
Outside of her professional work, Laura enjoys playing the violin and spending time with her two rescue dogs.
José M. López Colón, Co-founder

José M. López Colón is a passionate Puerto Rican educator and consultant committed to advancing bilingual education. After relocating to Massachusetts in 2017 due to Hurricane Maria, José has continued to advocate for equitable and high-quality education for multilingual learners.
José holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education as well as a Master’s degree in Bilingual Education from the University Interamericana de Puerto Rico. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Bilingual and Dual Language Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Over the past seven years, José has served in a variety of roles within dual language programs, including classroom teacher, Spanish reading interventionist, and K–12 Spanish instructional coach. In these roles, José has helped improve student reading outcomes in Spanish, contributed to the development of strategic plans, and supported the expansion of dual language programs into middle and high schools.
Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household and later learning English as an adult in the United States has shaped José’s deep understanding of the bilingual experience. This personal journey fuels a strong commitment to ensuring that all students—especially those from historically marginalized communities—have access to the cultural and academic benefits of bilingual education.
Outside of work, José enjoys playing volleyball and spending time with three beloved dogs.
